Da Nang, Vietnam. April 27th-29th 1969. A grass fire started by burning refuse from civilian trash disposal area went out of control at 10:45 and ignited a quantity of unserviceable ammunition. The fire spread to main ammunition storage and the ammunition continued to explode until midnight when the fire brought under control. over 39,000 tons of ammunition was destroyed. US casualties were 1 killed and 14 injured. Value of ammunition destroyed was in excess of $103 million.
