January 8: Voices of Freedom.  On this day in 1912 the African National Congress (ANC) was founded to increase the rights of the black South African population.    This quilt titled “Voices of Freedom” was made in 1992 by Deonna Green of Remus, Michigan and depicts important figures in African-American history including Nelson Mandela, president of the ANC from 1991-97.
