A good home security tip that you may have never thought about: Replace the screws in the door strike plates. Most contractors install the plates with a 1/2" screws; I install 4" screws in their place that go through the door frame and into the framing of the house. This will not kick down easily, making a burglar make more noise attempting to kick in your door, allowing time for you to arm yourself or they will move on to an easier target.
