Adaptive reuse: colonial house Tuason Residence is now Casa Real - biztraveltimes

Tuason Residence or popularly known as Sociego Mansion, which used to stand on Sociego Street in Sampaloc, Manila was transported piece by piece, rebuilt, and transformed into a colonial-era inspired events hall called Casa Real, a new addition to the commercial area of Acacia Estates, DMCI Homes’ sprawling development in Taguig City.

This one of a kind snapshot picture is from a small (4×6 cm) 127 film negative that is in my personal collection. The Manila Metropolitan Theatre is an art deco building designed by the Filipino architect Juan M. de Guzman Arellano, and inaugurated on December 10, 1931, with a capacity of 1670 (846 lower, 116 in loge, and 708 in balcony). During the liberation of Manila by the United States and Filipino forces in 1945, the theatre was severely damaged, losing some of its roofing and walls…
