Althea Gibson: 1927-2003; Althea Gibson was an American tennis player and golfer, and the 1st African-American athlete to cross the color line of international tennis. She became the first person of color to win a Grand Slam title. She also won in Wimbledon and the U.S. Nationals and was voted Female Athlete of the Year by the Associated Press in both 1957 and 1958.
