The festive season is coming, and we all know what that means: we're going to stuff ourselves with food so much that by the time the New Year comes, we're going to swear that we'll exercise and live a healthy lifestyle. Critically acclaimed Chinese photographer Fan Ho spent the 1950s and 60s taking gritty and darkly beautiful photos of street life in Hong Kong. His photographs, to be published in his new book “Fan Ho:A Hong Kong Memoir,” reach back through time and space to connect us to the everyday sights of this bustling metropolis in a way that many of us have never seen before.

Taiwanese sculptor Gaylord Ho was born in Hsin-Wu, Taiwan. Born to poor farmers Gaylord spent most of his free time helping, along with his brother, with the chores of scratching out a living on a small rice farm in middle Taiwan. His parents, while certainly not well off financially, were accepting and loving of their children and believed strongly in education. Gaylord was sent off to the public school system as soon as he was of age.
