Gospel of St. Matthew Folio 100v is a page from the Gospel of St Matthew and provides a wonderful example of the density of invention which is often contained on a single page. As with modem bibles, the Book of Kells uses a system which makes it easy to identify particular sections or verses. The first page of a new section is invariably illuminated in either a human, animal, or abstract form. There are approximately 2,000 such letters throughout Kells, and each is different in shape and colour.
