When I first started teaching adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators to my fifth graders, I quickly realized that they needed some concrete step-by-step directions. They also needed a way to organize their work. I racked my brain for a little while before coming up with this graphic organizer. My students love it, and they never confuse the steps again!
