Works by philosopher and theologian William of Ockham published in 1495. Contains notes and highlighted texts used to argue king's independence. Discovery shows how kings' advisers scoured country trying to find texts. Passages used as he sought annulment to marry second wife Anne Boleyn. The period, which led to break-up with Rome, is documented in Wolf Hall. Marie Tudor

Another portrait of Thomas Cromwell, who's looking younger and less worried here than in the more well known Holbein portrait (see other pin on this board). Cromwell is the main character in Hillary Mantel's novels "Wolf Hall" (which won the coveted Booker prize) and "Bring Up the Bodies", both of which are great reads about the intrigues at the court of Henry VIII.
