☭1933, Famous Photo of a starving Ukrainian by Gareth Jones. Up to 7.5 million Ukrainians were killed by Stalin in the 'Holodomor' ('Hunger-extermination') from 1932 to 1933. It was the use of purposeful starvation as a weapon: The famine had been predicted, then all foodstuffs were confiscated, outside aid was rejected and population movement restricted. It seems that Joseph Stalin wanted to thus eliminate the Ukrainian independence movement.
American M-10 tank destroyer firing near Saint Lo, June 1944. The M10 tank destroyer, formally 3-inch Gun Motor Carriage, M10 was a United States tank destroyer of World War II based on the chassis of the M4 Sherman tank. It was numerically the most important U.S. tank destroyer of World War II and combined a reasonably potent anti-tank weapon with a turreted platform (unlike the previous M3 GMC, whose gun was capable of only limited traverse).
