Dorothy Day - Efforts are underway to canonize her.  She founded Catholic Worker Houses of Hospitality, farming communes, and retreat centers. She also was known for her practice of nonviolence and solidarity with workers and the poor.  Her life was a journey marked by failed love affairs, a marriage, a suicide attempt, and an abortion. In the 1930s, Day worked closely with fellow activist Peter Maurin to establish the Catholic Worker movement, a nonviolent, pacifist movement that continues to combine direct aid for the poor & homeless with nonviolent direct action on their behalf.
