Teaching Strategies for Early Childhood Education

We recently spoke with a few teachers on how they bring important content learning & investigations to outdoor play. This teacher introduced predicting & graphing on the playground! During a study of balls, each child was invited to choose a ball from the classroom that he/she predicted would roll down the slide. Using chart paper & photographs of the individual balls, children were able to then document their findings after testing their predictions. How have you introduced graphing…

Our media specialist planned a fun literacy week for our K-3 students with a camping theme. I added a few classroom ideas of my is our door: It says "Welcome to the North Woods" created with DJ Inkers clip art. This title was totally appropriate since we live in MN! We did a couple of graphs: "Have you ever slept in a tent?" And "Have you made a s'more?" I created a writing center (using DJ Inkers clipart again!) with some camping vocabulary words... And I printed a poem the…

Snow Day Randomness! (Warning: No rhyme or reason...)

I am very thankful to have chosen a profession in which you get random days off for that icy white mess we call snow. Although, I would have appreciated an earlier phone call or post on the morning news, as I found out as I was walking out the door with two tired, but dressed little boys. Therefore, there was no sleeping in for this tired mama. Which wasn't good, because I thoroughly anticipated a snow day today and went to bed way too late last night! But anyway, enough rambling... I…

Growing Kinders

We have spent this week learning about snow and snowmen! The children have had a blast, and we were SOOO happy that we were finally able to make it outside. And that’s not even the coldest it gets! eeek!! So, we’ve been staying cozy and warm reading books about snowmen. Here are the books we’ve read so…
