Paper Bag Palm Trees
Pool Noodles are the secret to making palm trees. I taped two pool noodles together end to end with duct tape. Then I spray painted them brown. Each tree took about 100 lunch size paper sacks. I cut the bottoms off of all of them and then smooshed them down together. I slid the bags onto the pool noodles until I had the whole thing covered. The bottom and top bag got taped onto the pool noodle with masking tape and kinda scrunched around to cover up the tape....
I've always liked having a "tree" in my classroom to use for showing the change of seasons and for displaying children's artwork. It always makes for a good "group" project. This is how it looks in Sept., before we do anything to it. It is made of rolled kraft paper (in the mailing supply section of the store), and is velcroed to the wall. The trunk is stuffed with newspaper.
Around mid -October, our tree loses its green leaves and we replace them with fall colored leaves. The kids finger paint again, but this time they pick two fall colors and blend them together. The odd-looking leaves were made by dripping liquid watercolor paint onto diffusing paper. These items came from Discount School Supply.
