Ever wonder where the money that you donate for dogs in need really goes? One perfect example of how those donated funds are used is Honeybun, a 5-year-old, 8-pound miniature Shih Tzu. Honeybun was found as a stray by a local Atlanta animal control. She was listed as a different type of dog altogether because they had no idea what breed she was. Her matting and neglect were so extensive that the shelter contacted a groomer to relieve her of some of her pain and discomfort. That is when Angels Among Us first saw Honeybun. Honeybun's situation was so dire that she was covered in sores and scars from years of mats being torn from her flesh, and it was not even known before shaving her that she was already missing one eye. The other eye was in desperate need of specialized medical attention. The opthamologist found that she has the most severe type of deep corneal ulcer possible, and that one tiny scratch or bump could easily make it burst. A strict regimen of high-quality medication, administered about once per hour by her foster, as well as a calm and stress-free environment is required in the hopes to save her eye. She will need to go back to the specialist for weekly visits until her eye is healed, and her ongoing care will run AAU into the multiple thousands. It will be a long road for this poor dog, but the Angels will not give up on her like somebody else did. Honeybun is optimistic, happy, and grateful...and it is wonderful to see this previously hopeless and broken pup gain a new lease on life. That is our reward, and her will to live with joy and forgiveness in her heart humbles us. Angels Among Us does not pick and choose only the healthy and easily-adoptable animals to bring into our program. So, when we ask for $150 to save one dog and more is raised, those funds go directly to the medical care of injured, ill, neglected, and forgotten pets like this one. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your ongoing support and please send your best healing wishes to sweet Honeybun! Any questions or adoption interest for this amazing dog should be directed to: christina@angelsrescue.org.
