Jésus aux limbes

1 Pin
Les Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane f142v c. 1412-1416 This miniature is a very subtly painted mysterious nighttime scene. The only illumination in the garden of Gethsemane comes from the halo of Christ, from a few torches still burning faintly, and from the overturned lantern. On the background falling stars. The scene shows the armed men that came to the olive garden to capture Christ, but fell to the ground when he made himself known.
Agony in the garden, 1562, by Titian (Tiziano Vecellio, 1485/90-1576) and studio, oil on canvas, w168 x h201 cm, sold by Christie’s in 2019 for USD 2,415,000, currently in the collection of the Colnaghi Foundation, London.
