Francisco Vasquez de Coronado: Explorer and Conquistador. Coronado (1510-1554) was a Spanish ruler, explorer and conquistador. He was the first European to explore North America's Southwest and the first to see the American bison or buffalo.
Hernan Cortes - Cortes's 1519 arrival in Latin America coincided with the projected return of Quetzalcoatl, the god of the Aztecs. The leader of the Aztecs, Moctezuma, was a theological scholar and knew much of the Aztec religion. The Aztecs were then enamored with the Spaniards as they were beasts with two heads and six legs (when on horseback), with light skin, and beards. This left the Aztecs with their guards down and led to Cortes's takeover.
