HMS Victory Main Mast Rigging
Okay, not ALL of the drawings in the 2010 reprint of "The 100 Gun Ship Victory" are poor-quality reprints. This illustration, showing a cross-section of the ship at the main mast and depicting all of the rigging associated with the mast, it's yards, and it's sails, is a prime example of John McKay's talent as a draughtsman.
A better photo of Lifts passing right through Topmast Shrouds. They should pass across forward of the foremost one even though they will chafe. Square yards HAVE to pivot and so the Lifts have to be free to shift in space quite a bit. I am convinced that many ship model builders believe that yards always remain square to the keel, that these model builders do not understand what it means or why it is necessary to Brace the Yards.
