New York: Caldor was a discount department store chain founded in 1951 & headquartered in Norwalk. Conn. Kohl's Corp. announced on Feb. 3, 1999, that it would be entering the Long Island market, purchasing the leases to six Caldor stores, as part of a deal to open 32 stores in metropolitan New York.
